Annual Sportsman’s Dinner

Thursday 26th November at the Cresta Court Hotel.
Fred Eyre was MC, and he brought his own masterly blend of professionalism and humour to enhance the proceedings. Club Chairman Colm O’Neill gave us a run-down of the year and the fortunes of all the teams.
Next it was Graham Heathcote’s turn to entertain us. He was in superb form relating anecdotes from his long career playing and managing in non-league football. Graham demonstrated a fantastic memory for the names of those he’d played with and against, and frequently called on friends to confirm the facts. We listened in rapt attention, not wishing to miss a thing, particularly the witty asides.
Comedian Mick Miller’s straight faced delivery, stream of great jokes and humorous put-down of anyone careless enough to come to his notice, helped to make it a great night!

Old Alts Society Day 2015

Martin Leake wins the Charles Laver Trophy for the second year running!
Antony Perrett was second and Colin Bamford third.
Jeff Winthorpe claims the Guests’ Trophy for the second time.
The winning team was Antony Perrett, Paul Stockton and Duncan Battman.
Dave Smith and Ted Roylance won the ‘nearest the pin’ prizes.
It was good to see two first timers Phil Jones and Mark Winthorpe, as well as a lot of old friends. The weather behaved itself in spite of a few drops of rain that came to nothing. Styal should be congratulated on the condition of the course, with the three new holes 5, 6 and 7 adding to the challenge.
This turned out to be one of the most enjoyable OAA golf days for some time!
