School Expansion

Altrincham Grammar School for Boys Success in the Selective School Expansion Fund (SSEF)

AGSB Expansion View

I am delighted to share with you that the AGSB application to the Selective Schools Expansion Fund (SSEF) has been successful.  We intend to expand the School on its current site through the addition of extra classrooms and a larger Library. This will enable us to create an additional 30 places in Year 7 starting in September 2020, improving access to a grammar school for Trafford children, regardless of socio-economic background. The investment means that over recent years, the Hamblin Education Trust has been able to secure £10 million of educational investment into the Altrincham area and across its two schools – AGSB and North Cestrian School. This is great news for pupils of all abilities and for the Altrincham community as a whole.

Mr G.A. Wright
Head Master

Good to see Ian Livingstone on “Click”.

Good to see Ian on “Click” this morning!

The University of Suffolk this week announced that Ian (old boy of AGSB and Guest Speaker at our dinner in 2014 ) will be receiving an honorary award at the graduation ceremony in October, and explained why:

Ian Livingstone CBE is regarded as one of the founding fathers of the UK games industry and will be presented with an honorary doctorate at the graduation ceremonies. He co-founded iconic games company Games Workshop with Steve Jackson in 1975, launching Dungeons & Dragons in Europe and later Warhammer.

In 1982, he co-authored The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, the first interactive gamebook in the Fighting Fantasy series which has sold almost 20 million copies worldwide. He wrote 15 of the titles, including City of Thieves, Forest of Doom and Deathtrap Dungeon.

Whilst serving as Executive Chairman of Eidos plc, he launched global video games blockbusters including Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.

He has been awarded a BAFTA Special Award for his contribution to the video games industry and said of his honorary award, “I believe the arts and sciences should no longer be a question of either/or and must be brought together to encourage creativity and innovation. Creativity is a core strength of the UK and gives us an edge as a nation. I’m delighted that the University of Suffolk offers both arts courses and a BSc course in Computer Games programming. Not only is programming a transferable skill, it is an essential skill for the 21st century to enable digital creativity.”

The Chair in the Chair!

Friday 19th July
We had 22 Old Alts on the night.
The youngest was from this year’s leavers and the oldest started at the school in 1953.
And a great time was had by all!
Thanks to Dave and the team at The Stamford for making us so welcome.
If you weren’t there, why not?
But don’t miss the next one which we’ll be having pre-Christmas!
